Batch Blogs again

It is batch blog again.

Blog 1)

Bought new toy again.
Aiyo... always like to spent...
This time, I change my room monitor to use a Samsung 26 inch LCD TV.
Also added a small little high defination DVD player by Shinco beside it.
Using Resolution of 1360 x 768 wide screen, double up for TV + DVD movie.Feel so relax now, can watch DVD before sleep and shut down via remote, compare to getting up and shutdown computer (used to play via Computer).
Sigh... I must be getting lazy.

Blog 2)

Meet up Reginald for the 'last' time.
Reginald, my ex-colleague, a SAP Administrator has migrated, he came back last week to do his final packing. We (with some other colleagues) meet up at this Japanese Sake Bar for dinner and drink. It is very comfortable, although the food is average. The 5 of us finished a big bottle (1.8 liter) of Sake while he chat about the good old time... I hope we will meet again.

Blog 3)

Today is my 1st day at my new cubicle (was told to shift, so that the new team is together). I am seated right outside my Deputy CIO's room. A new task is handed down today, I will tested the use on this 3G PCMCIA card and software from VodaPhone which M1 is using in Singapore for wireless access.
I installed it, quite easy and the software is friendly to use. However, the max speed of 384kbps is not easy to achive and maintain, performance go up and down, not consistent. Checked the price, very expensive too.
Also tested with our VPN, it is stable. The good point is that one can access the internet anytime anywhere as long as the mobile signal is there.
Will check out the market for more comparison, hopefully give a good report for this little task.

My career path

Today, I received my appraisal result.
Get a good bonus (better than last year), but my promotion is turn down by the highest management. Although my performance grade is higher than the previous 3 years, it is not enough to convince for promotion. I will have to get another high grade this year for consistency for achieve it next year.

I am not very disappointed, may be I did not put in high hope in the first place. If I am looking for money and position, I will have left 3 years ago. I stayed for the still small office environment and acceptable salary.

Now, my new post (Senior Analyst) is directly under the Deputy CIO, who is not too technical. I hope I can do my work with my freedom .

Although it is very tough working under the previous technical manager, I did learn a lot. May be I still have not achieve her high expection, I do appreciate her guidance for this few years. Recently, I saw her brokedown. In her new role, she have lost all her engineers, and the new vendors is not up to the standard to handle things themselve without consulting her. She is totally overloaded to the point of breaking down. I hope she can fare well in her new role.

Movie : Ice Age 2

Now, this is a exact opposite of 'Ultraviolet'. Ice Age 2 is wonderful show that bring joy and laughter. I have not enjoy a show so much for some time. Go watch it now.

Movie : Ultraviolet

I watched this movie on Wednesday night. I have always like to watch Milla Jovovich since 'fifth element' and the 'residential evil'. Unfortunately, this movie is a total failure. The movie has a extremely hollow story and nearly the whole show is fighting and killing, what a waste of talent.

Too bad, it is not totally correct. If I can really manage conflict so well, a lot of things may not have happened. Instead, I am a person who rather avoid conflict than to confront conflict. Sigh...

Chipmunk's Recommendation

Wednesday's meet up with Chipmunk, she recommended 2 things.
1) Japanese Ramen and Unagi, she recommended the Japanese Shop outside Park Loyal Hotel.
2) The place to buy Midori, the melon liqueur which I have searched for a long time. She recommended Isetan at Orchard Road.

Yesterday, my friend and I visit these 2 recommendations.
And wow, really the Ramen is really the best I have tasted so far and I have found my Midori at last! I have learn to believe you. Haha, any 4D to tell me?

We also visit the Singaporean Sling's birthplace - Raffles Hotel.

Today, Russell is very happy, he built a 'castle?' with Lego.

Summary for the past week.

Have not posted anything for 8 days. Nothing really interesting, mostly dull and busy work. Here is a recap.

洗涤

愤怒的怒火,失望的伤痛,
急需音乐的洗涤...

A unhappy event

Due to recent changes in the company, I am going to be the last to leave my portfolio and also handing numerous things, in addition to my projects and routine work, yet some people just can't stop throwing works that can be done easily over to me. I rejected and stand my ground, she is unhappy. So be it, I only have 2 hands as everyone, and this is a task that can be taken care of easily by the people involved.

Here is the case :
Colleague A was transferred to vendor as part of the reorganisation. His procurement right was revoked, and he need to make a procurement for some network maintenance. Our procurement in charge has stated clearly that in these period, the vendor procurement need will go to our department admin, and she will raise the procurement on behalf. I believe it is good arrangement. Yet, the person B, asked me to raise instead; the reason being the admin is not IT trained, I rebuked that ex-colleague A (a engineer) will be guiding her, which will be as good as he raise himself, why do you need me to raise? Person B is not happy and say she will raise herself. Fine, I am no convince of your answer and I already have one whole load of work thrown from you, enough is enough.

I hereby declared that I will not be bother by this case anymore and make myself suffer and feeling uneasy. This feeling stops here and now. I am not guilty and I will stand my ground.

No more Instant Messager

On Monday, it is announced that no Instant Messager is allowed in the company even if it is used for work.

I will miss one of the main way that I keep in contact with my friends....

Sigh.... This is the beginning of a bad week.

Rushing for time

I have been rushing for a last of things recently, because I need to make it before the next quarterly system downtime on next Saturday. I need to migrate 2 Java Application and Web Servers while also setting up another 1 for software upgrade testing, not to mention having to juggle with my routine works and managing the Application Infrastructure transistion to IBM. Hope I can make it. No, I will make it. I am sure, just a bit more...

Cocktail : Bailey's Comet

This is my 1st try on shooters, but I do not consider it a try, as it is super simple with equal portion of Vodka and Bailey's Irish Cream. I like the taste of the Irish Cream, but always find it troublesome as it must be placed in the fridge upon opening.
Nonetheless, I have 2 shots of it and to bed I now go. Sweet dream to me, tomorrow will be another hectic day, but well, it is also Friday (look at the positive side. :-) ).

Drama : Army Daze

Yesterday night, I visit the New Drama Center at the New National Library building. It is performing the drama 'Army Daze' by Toy Factory Theatre Ensemble. This is humorous play which focus of the new recruits and the family. It make me laugh a lot and also refresh my memory when I am a recruit (more than 10 years ago). It is humorous and yet using a lot of real scenarios to illustrate the tough yet fun army life, and the process of making a man out of a boy. I am a bit disappointed that it is rather short at one and half hours only. The new Drama Center is also very comfortable and I will look forward to visit it again.

What Coffee are you ?

You Are a Frappacino

At your best, you are: fun loving, sweet, and modern

At your worst, you are: childish and over indulgent

You drink coffee when: you're craving something sweet

Your caffeine addiction level: low

I am not really a coffee drinker, so it is correct. I drink Ice Tea most.

Golfing at Batam, Indonesia

Today, I went to Batam with my colleage PT and her husband for golf. They are both very experience golfers while I am just a beginner who have not play even a 9 hole course yet. Although I played rather poor as expected (Only 1 par and 2 bogie for 18 holes) and also lost 3 balls to the obstacles. I learned a lot, from gripping, stance, swinging, playing in difference terrains and obstacle. Hopefully, I will play much better the next time after more practices. I also need to play relax, I am too tense and under pressure today. Have to enjoy playing more. It is rather hot today, my hands are now very red after playing under the sun for 4.5 hrs, luckily I wore a cap, so my face is not too bad.

I will sleep early tonight as I have not have much sleeps for the last 2 days.

Movie : Underworld - Revolution

It is the sequel to the movie : Underworld.

It continues the saga of war between the Death Dealers (vampires) and the Lycans (werewolves). The film traces the beginnings of the ancient feud between the two tribes as Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and Michael (Scott Speedman), the lycan hybrid, try to discover the secrets of their bloodlines. All of this takes them into the battle to end all wars as the immortals must finally face their retribution.

Although this is a rated M18 movie (Mature : for 18 years old and above only), I think that it have the mark to be rated R21 (restricted for 21 years old and above), it have loads of horror, bloodshed and strong languages, and a rather detail sex scene. Since last year or 2, Singapore have loosen the control of media, and allowed more uncut edition which I applause after enduring so many years of watching movie and VCD/DVD shortened by the authority.

What American City Are You?

You Are New York

Cosmopolitan and sophisticated, you enjoy the newest in food, art, and culture.

You also appreciate a good amount of grit - and very little shocks you.

You're competitive, driven, and very likely to succeed.

Famous people from New York: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tupac Shakur, Woody Allen

blogtag: embarassing events

Ouch! I have been tagged by LDD to talk about 5 of my embarassing events.

1) 9 years ago, I went to my UK coursemate's (Florence) house and help her fix her computer, we are building it from scratch by buying parts and assemble it. I actually short cicuit and trip the power breaker twice when the power come in contact with the metal casing of the computer. Yeah, so much for a Newbie IT Engineer then.

2) When I am in primary 1, my teacher says Rolex watch is a expensive watch, and I thought it mean digital watch, so I say I have one on me. The whole class is shock and follow by great laughter when the truth is out.

3) In Secondary 2, I am in the choir. During practise, the music teacher ask me to excuse myself for the team. The reason is my voice is changing (from boy to man) and will not be suitable to sing in that year. Sigh...

4) Just last week, I bring my mum to have a Japanese meal and I found out that I did not bring my wallet, causing my mum to have to foot the bill. So embarass...

5) A couple of year back, after being pick on by my boss, I went to tell one of my colleagues, not knowing my boss is in the cubicle beside my colleague. She suddently say that is not what she mean when my colleague and I are talking about it.
(that time we are using tall partition, now we are using open concept. Phew, much better)

Now, my turn to tag people.
1) Carrie
2) Eden
3) 炎
4) 畢滿

Dear friends, have a wonderful weekend.

How do you live your life?

How You Life Your Life

You are honest and direct. You tell it like it is.

You're laid back and chill, but sometimes you care too much about what others think.

You prefer a variety of friends and tend to change friends quickly.

You tend to dream big, but you worry that your dreams aren't attainable.

My Work Environment now

I have not talked about work recently, because it is very messy now. I am doing daily work + my project work + prepare my new role + overseeing the transision of systems to vendor. I only have 2 hands, how much can I do? Sigh... Also, I am told to finished all my project work before handing over. Effective date is 1 May, but my replacement is not even appointed yet. Sigh... My dear friend invited me for a Trip to Russia, the date is 28 Apr to 7 May. I will be very happy to go, but my boss seems reluctant to let me go, I really hope she will let me. I have not taken long leave for more than 2 years. Can I have a break please? Sigh...

Movie : Munich

Last week, I watched a movie by Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Costner named 'Rumor has it'. It is an average movie, so I am not recording it in my blog. Just now, I watched 'Munich', directed by Steven Spielberg. The show last 2.5 hrs and is very very engrossing. I am totally immense in the show. My heart is extremely heavy after a third of the movie till the very end of it. The movie theme is to call for an end of violence against violence, because no matter who win, there will be no peace, they will only be further anger, pain and lost. Highly recommended. I look forward to watch ‘Underworld : Revolution’ on Friday.

Cocktail : The Blue Lady

This is a cocktail I try last weekend.

It is the blue lady, contain Blue Curacao, Creme de Cocoa and Cream.
Its creamy blue looks good, and tasted sweet.

Visiting the Zoo last Sunday

Today, my colleague commented that I have not updated my blog for sometime.
Yes, indeed. Have been rather busy at work, resting and having social life.
Nowaday, it seems I can only blog after midnight (like now) and in batch mode.

Anyway, last Sunday, I bought Russell to visit the Zoo. He does not really like animal all along, but he do still seems mildly interested that day. He has not been feeling well for the last 2 weeks. Hope he can fully recover soon.

To my dearest wife who is no longer by my side.

A evening with songs

Last night, I invited my friend to this place named '弹唱人'.
It is a quite place in the city with young singers singing songs dedicated by customers. We requested a some songs and a few of them are sung and the singers are very talented. The food is normal and drinks are fine (although the bubble tea are very good). It is the ambient that make the different, it is a long time since I really sit down and enjoy songs (unless musical performance in Espanade Singapore).

The 1st half are very well sung by 2 singers (惠冰,俊雄) and guitar by 吉祥. They are also very humorous. While the second half is by 慧玲 alone, it is not as great but the ending part if just wonderful, because she invited the pretty bartender on stage to sing (bartender, but they only have white/red wine and beer only, she mixed bubble tea most of the time). Also a nice gentleman who is the Chief musician of a China Performance in Espanade now volunteer on stage to be the drummer. Now, this is real fun, jamming the band just because of the love of music. In music, they is no country and no religion involved. They did it well, just the drums' volume is a bit too loud.

Overall, it is good experience. I will definitely visit again.

Walk the Line

Last Saturday, my friend and I watched the movie 'Walk the Line'. It is about the country music legend Johnny Cash's life, from his early days on an Arkansas cotton farm to his rise to fame with Sun Records in Memphis. From poor to rich, from self belief to self destroy and back again. Life is simply that, full of ups and downs. The good thing is he finally settle down and live a fulfilling life with June, and he died just 4 months after June in 2003. Follow her? I want to believe that.
I usually enjoy Reese Witherspoon's performance, the last is 'Just like Heaven'. I am glad to see her perform here again.

A special day

You may think I mean the Valentine Day? No, I do not mean it. It has lost its meaning to me since last year, may be meaning will come again, we shall see.

The special day is today, the day that I am fully leaving the Singapore Arm Forces, in short, the army.

14 Years ago, I have serve the nation for 2 years and 5 months as a Infantry Commander, and after that, serving from days to weeks every year (except 1996 when I study in England). Today, it is the special day for my parade to post to the Reserve, which means the Army will not look for me unless there is a real war.

Well, that means I am too old for the army?

In the life as a soldier serving the nation, there are blood, tear and sweat (mostly), but there are joy too, and the bonding of comrades and companionship through the hard days. Today, it come to the end, and they will continue to live in my memory.

When Russell grows, I will ask him to embrace the duty, and not to avoid it. It is also a way to turn a boy to a man, and the way to be more brave, discipline and independant.

Without the army, there will be no one protect us, the small little red dot on the map.

Tonight - at the riverside celebration

Tonight, my friend and I visited the Chinese New Year Celebration at the riverside. Here are some of the photo taken there.

We wait till 9.30pm for the Fireworks. Although the duration is short, it is very creative and beautiful with a lot of variety.

After the firework, we went to the Aria Bistro Wine Bar for a drink. To my surprise, they have some quite unique drinks.

This is poison ivy.

This is paradise.

This is a variety of shooters.
I took photo of their menu, because they have the recipe on it, although the amount of the the ingredients are not specified, it will need some try to get it right.

Cocktail : Continental

This beautiful cocktail in green color, 'Continental' is make from Rum, Peppermint liquer and lime juice. Isn't it beautiful?

My new toy too.

Saw Yuen Yuen's Blog on new toy. Haha. I also want to show off my new toy. Shameless me. My new toy is the Creative Zen Vision M, it has 30Gb of diskspace and can play video, audio and radio too. I loaded it with the Japan Anime 'Inuyasha' Series and watched during my travel now.

So busy. Even Blog have to be batch processed.

Phew... It has been so busy for the past few days, did not even have time to read blog, not to mention write. So today will have to write blog in batch. Haha. Also, tired of the song on my blog, have to change to something jumpy. Yuen Luk Luk asked for photo of Russell with more of his new year shirt. So here it is.

Life Path Number

Your Life Path Number is 8

Your purpose in life is to help others succeed

You are both a natural leader and a natural success. You are also a great judge of character.

You have a head for business and finance. You know how to make money.

A great visionary, you can see gold where other people see nothing.

In love, you are very generous - with gifts, time, and guidance.

You love to inspire people, but it can be frustrating when they don't understand your vision.

Great success comes easily for you. But so does great failure, as you are very reckless.

You are confident, and sometimes this confidence borders on arrogance.

Happy Chinese New Year

In another 24 hours, the year of dog will arrive.
My dear friends and fellow bloggers, a Happy Chinese New Year to you.
In this new year, this is my wishes
1) Stay healthy and happy everyday for me and my family
2) Stay focus and make progress in my new role in work

What are yours?
:-)

Movie : Memoirs of a Geisha

After last Wednesday's 'Elizabethtown', I choose to see 'Memoirs of a Geisha' with my friend. Before the show, we have a wonderful dinner at Yuki@Yaki, it is a buffet dinner with Japanese Steamboat and BBQ, the interesting part is the customer self-make Ice-Cream. Too bad, I did not take any photo. The dinner is to celebrate my friend's fat bonus and her coming birthday. Back to the movie, it is beautifully shooted and having a engrossing story. It is rather special, especially focusing on the war between the few women in the movie (With the Second World War in the Background). I have never really understand women, perhaps never will, it is interesting to see how commited to love, hated and revenge. Pumpkin in the movie executed the most surprised move, taking her revenge at the most crucial time while all the while claim that all is forgiven, she is even most sinsister than her big sister (by Gong Li). Fearful women.

What a lovely character.

看了四集的'仙剑奇侠传', 觉的'赵灵儿'真好. 温柔贤淑, 可爱又善良. 戏毕竟是戏, 真的有这么好的人吗?

My new phone

Just bought my new phone today, it is Samsung's SGH-D600. With its 2 Mega Pixel Camera, taking photo for blog will be more convenience.

'FIFA 2000' Testing.

As promised to a fellow blogger, I am testing 'FIFA 2000' on my system running Windows XP just now. After installed, the game run fine just as he suggested that some of his friend did too. Seems no problem. Let me think about what could caused the difference.

My new and first Golf Set

After the course and various practise, I bought my first golf set. Tomorrow, I will bring it to test at the driving range. The pic shows 4 clubs missing, because they are in my sunday bag, packed for tomorrow's practise.

Cocktail - Sidecar

This is another example of simple Cocktail.

1.75 measure - Cognac
0.75 measure - Cointreau
0.75 measure - Lemon Juice

Taste good, looks average.
A practical cocktail.
Cointreau is a brandy-based spirit that has been favoured with the rind of bitter oranges. It can mix with also any spirit (perhaps except Whisky) and mixing with Brandy will make sidecar.

Cocktail - Blue Shark

I have a busy day and a few rounds of table tennis after work. Being quite tired, I decided to make a drink for myself, so as to have a better sleep.
So tonight, I tried this beautiful cocktail - Blue Shark.
Do not be misled by the beautiful look, this drink is very strong.
It consist of vodka, tequila and blue curcaco only, without mixing with juice or carbonated drink, so it is a rather strong drink.
Sweet Dream to myself.

Office Update

Today, we have a kick off meeting with the outsourcing vendor, also some of my colleagues will meet their new employer and those of us who stayed have had our 1st team meeting. 'The new CIO Office will be a team of thinkers, the operation will be perform by the outsourcing vendor', said our DCIO. He proceeded to tell us the plan and the challenge ahead, it will be a very busy year and will focus on transition this year. Everyone have their role more or less, except myself. As I will be doing Technology planning for the organisation, it will be quite uncertain as of what will be the technology and how to measure my performance. I will have to think about it in the weekend. All in all, I am glad I am given such a chance to take on this role and leave my technical role behind, I hope I will not be a disappointment.

My plan is
1) Identify and priorise the IT need in the organisation.
2) Set up networking with other Agencies and Vendors, so as to keep up with trend and technology development.
3) Work with the business analysts and check if new technology is require in their coming project.
4) Train up on Strategy planning, interpersonal and presentation skill

More to add on. The most urgent task is to have smooth transition of my work and my current boss work, also collect data for IDA to prepare for the coming SOE implementation.

Actually, due to the changes in this few days, I am emotionally quite disturbed, as I feel the distance from some colleagues that will be outsourced. Some do not want to talk and a couple even put remarks as 'Hah, you can stay ah!?!?' as though I am not good enough to stay, may be I am not, but could they not just be graceful and say something nice. Well, may be they are not in good mode, I will be too if I am them.

But somehow, I think through, leaving this organisation may be a good choice too, as the outsourcing vendor is a very big company and have quite good prospect although they are going to the subsidary only. But the incoming technical lead is actually our helpdesk team leader 6 years ago. If he can climb in 6 years with that vendor, who can say that going to the outsourcing vendor isn't a blessing in disguise? By exposing to more environment and gather more experience, knowing more people, opportunity may be waiting somewhere. My dear colleagues, do not lose hope, things may be better than you think, also as Mattew Andrews say 'If you cannot change the situation, make the best of it'. Lastly, changing is unavoidable, but worrying is optional. All the best.

New Job Portfolio

I am told that I will be leaving my current job based on technical knowledge and will be doing Technology Planning in my new portfolio, also I will be reporting directly to my debuty CIO (Whom I have a feeling may be promoting to CIO soon). It is a blessing in disguise, as I will be doing management and planning work rather than daily technical administrative work.

I shall be researching for my own jobscope and KPI (key performance indicator) in the coming days. Tomorrow, the whole picture of the new organisation chart will be shown and schedule for handing over will be introduced.

Hope everything will go smoothly.

True Love and True Care (Story)

I was born in a secluded village on a mountain. Day by day, my parents ploughed the yellow dry soil with their backs towards the sky. I have a brother who is 3 years younger than me. I wanted to buy a handkerchief, which all girls around me seemed to have.

So, one day I stole 50 cents from my father's drawer. Father had discovered about the stolen money right away. He made me and my younger brother kneel against the wall as he held a bamboo stick in his hand.

"Who stole the money?" he asked. I was stunned, too afraid to talk. Neither of us admitted to the fault, so he said, "Fine, if nobody wants to admit, you two should be beaten!"

He lifted up the bamboo stick. Suddenly, my younger brother gripped father's hand and said, "Dad, I was the one who did it!"

The long stick smacked my brother's back repeatedly. Father was so angry that he kept on whipping my brother until he lost his breath. After that, he sat down on our stone bed and scolded my brother.

"You have learned to steal from your own house now. What other embarrassing things will you be possibly doing in the future? You should be beaten to death, you shameless thief!"

That night, my mother and I hugged my brother. His body was full of wounds from the beating but he never shed a single tear. In the middle of the night, all of sudden, I cried out loudly. My brother covered my mouth with his little hand and said, "Sis, now don't cry anymore. Everything has happened". I still hate myself for not having enough courage to admit what I did.

Years gone by, but the incident still seemed like it just happened yesterday. I will never forget my brother's expression when he protected me. That year, my brother was 8 years old and I was 11 years old. When my brother was in his last year of secondary school, he was accepted in an upper secondary school in the central. At the same time, I was accepted into a university in the province. That night, father squatted in the yard, smoking, packet by packet. I could hear him ask my mother, "Both of our children, they have good results? Very good results?"
Mother wiped off her tears and sighed, "What is the use? How can we possibly finance both of them?"

At that time, my brother walked out, he stood in front of father and said, "Dad, I don't want to continue my study anymore, I have read enough books." Father swung his hand and slapped my brother on his face.

"Why do you have a spirit so damn weak? Even if it means I have to beg for money on the streets, I will send you two to school until you have both finished your study!"

And then, he started to knock on every house in the village to borrow money. I stuck out my hand as gently as I can to my brother's swollen face, and told him, "A boy has to continue his study. If not, he will not be able to overcome this poverty we are experiencing."

I, on the other hand, had decided not to further my study at the university. Nobody knew that on the next day, before dawn, my brother left the house with a few pieces of worn-out clothes and a few dry beans. He sneaked to my side of the bed and left a note on my pillow; "Sis, getting into a university is not easy. I will go find a job and I will send money to you. I held the note while sitting on my bed,and cried until I lost my voice.

That year, my brother was 17 years old; I was 20 years old. With the money father borrowed from the whole village, and the money my brother earned from carrying cement on his back at a construction site, finally, I managed to get to the third year of my study in the university.

One day, while I was studying in my room, my roommate came in and told me, "There's a villager waiting for you outside!" Why would there be a villager looking for me? I walked out, and I saw my brother from afar. His whole body was covered with dirt, dust, cement and sand. I asked him, "Why did you not tell my roommate that you are my brother?"

He replied with a smile, "Look at my appearance. What will they think if they would know that I am your brother? Won't they laugh at you?"

I felt so touched, and tears filled my eyes. I swept away dirt and dust from my brother's body. And told him with a lump in my throat, " I don't care what people would say! You are my brother no matter what your appearance is?"

From his pocket, he took out a butterfly hair clip. He put it on my hair and said, "I saw all the girls in town are wearing it. So, I think you should also have one." I could not hold back myself anymore. I pulled my brother into my arms and cried.

That year, my brother was 20 years old; I was 23 years old. I noticed that the broken window was repaired the first time I brought my boyfriend home. The house was scrubbed cleaned. After my boyfriend left, I danced like a little girl in front of my mother, "Mom, you didn't have to spend so much time cleaning the house!"

But she told me with a smile, "It was your brother who went home early to clean the house. Didn't you see the wound on his hand? He hurt his hand while he was replacing the window." I went into my brother's bedroom. Looking at his thin face, I felt like there are hundreds of needle pricked in my heart. I applied some ointment on his wound and put a bandage on it.

"Does it hurt? " I asked him.

"No, it doesn't hurt. You know, when at the construction site, stones keep falling on my feet. Even that could not stop me from working." In the middle of the sentence, he stopped. I turned my back on him and tears rolled down my face.

That year, my brother was 23 years old; I was 26 years old. After I got married, I lived in the city. Many times my husband invited my parents to come and live with us, but they didn't want. They said, once they left the village, they wouldn't know what to do. My brother agreed with them. He said, "Sis, you just take care of your parents-in-law. I will take care of mom and dad here."

My husband became the director of his factory. We asked my brother to accept the offer of being the manager in the maintenance department. But my brother rejected the offer. He insisted on working as a repairman instead for a start.

One day, my brother was on the top of a ladder repairing a cable, when he got electrocuted, and was sent to the hospital. My husband and I visited him at the hospital. Looking at the white gypsum on his leg, I grumbled, "Why did you reject the offer of being a manager? Managers won't do something dangerous like that. Now look at you, you are suffering a serious injury. Why didn't you just listen to us?"

With a serious expression on his face, he defended his decision, "Think of brother-in-law. He just became the director, and I being uneducated, and would become a manager, what kind of rumors would fly around?"

My husband's eyes filled up with tears, a! nd then I said, "But you lack in education only because of me!"
"Why do you talk about the past?" he said and then he held my hand. That year, he was 26 years old and I was 29 years old.

My brother was 30 years old when he married a farmer girl from the village. During the wedding reception, the master of ceremonies asked him, "Who is the one person you respect and love the most?"

Without even taking a time to think, he answered," My sister." He continued by telling a story I could not even remember. "When I was in primary school, the school was in a different village. Everyday, my sister and I would walk for 2 hours to school and back home. One day, I lost the other pair of my gloves. My sister gave me one of hers. She wore only one glove and she had to walk far. When we got home, her hands were trembling because of the cold weather that she could not even hold her chopsticks. From that day on, I swore that as long as I live, I would take care of my sister and will always be good to her."

Applause filled up the room. All guests turned their attention to me. I found it hard to speak, "In my whole life, the one I would like to thank most is my brother," And in this happy occasion, in front of the crowd, tears were rolling down my face again.

Love and care for the one you love every single days of your life.
You may think what you did is just a small deed,
but to that someone, it may mean a lot.

Big Change in my office and work portfolio.

Today, in the late afternoon, my debuty CIO announced the change of Department structure, this is the 2nd changes in 2 years. This round is of greater scale than the last. 9 out of 19 persons (9 out of 15 if excluded managers) will be transferred to the outsourcing vendor. I understand this is unavoidable because of our IT job nature. I just hope that I am not in the list. But my job nature as a System Administrator and DBA is one of the most replacable job by vendors. The namelist will be announced tomorrow afternoon.

I think again, then I start to notice something,
1) I have done my performance appraisal in the morning with my boss. She did not hinted anything about change and even discuss on the future. How can I be in the plan if I am outsourced?
2) Not everyone have the chance to do a survey (Harrison Innerview), that may prove that the management is looking for people filling the new roles in the new organisation chart. I am one of the fortunate to be given the form.

After much thoughts, I think I will be staying. That is confirmed in the evening when my boss called. But I will have a totally new portfolio. I think I may be assigned to research work on New Technology to improve my organisation. That will be a challenge, but I like research and I will like to know more about my new portfolio. But this is my guess only, and will only know tomorrow.

I felt sad for those colleagues who will be outsourced. Although they will be with us till handover or even longer, I think I will miss them. Although I have learn the rule of detachment, I still felt some sadness. All the best, my dear colleagues.

Add-on
Someone read my blog and spread this news, one of my ex-colleague is confused as she have 2 news, one saying I am out and my blog says I am in. She is so confused that she send a sms to me instead of another person (that is how I know someone is spreading rumour). Sigh... news spread fast, rumour is even faster.

Chat with God (Story)

God : Hello. Did you call me

Me: Called you? No.. who is this?

God : This is GOD.
I heard your prayers.
So I thought I will chat.

Me: I do pray. Just makes me feel good.
I am actually busy now.
I am in the midst of something.

God : What are you busy at?
Ants are busy too.

Me: Don't know.
But I cant find free time.
Life has become hectic.
It's rush hour all the time.

God : Sure. Activity gets you busy.
But productivity gets you results.
Activity consumes time.
Productivity frees it.

Me: I understand.
But I still can't figure out.
By the way,
I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.

God : Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time,
by giving you some clarity.
In this net era,
I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?

God : Stop analyzing life.
Just live it.
Analysis is what makes it complicated.

Me: Why are we then constantly unhappy?

God : Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday.
You are worrying because you are analyzing.
Worrying has become your habit.
That's why you are not happy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?

God : Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty..

God : Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?

God : Diamond cannot be polished without friction.
Gold cannot be purified without fire.
Good people go through trials, but don't suffer.
With that experience their life become better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?

God : Yes. In every terms, Experience is a hard teacher.
She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests?
Why cant we be free from problems?

God : Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering
Beneficial Lessons (to)Enhance Mental Strength.
Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance,
not when you are free from problems.

Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems,
we don't know where we are heading..

God : If you look outside you will not know where you are heading.
Look inside.
Looking outside, you dream.
Looking inside,you awaken.
Eyes provide sight.
Heart provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt,
more than moving in the right direction.
What should I do?

God : Success is a measure as decided by others.
Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.
Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead.
You work with the compass.
Let others work with the clock.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

God : Always look at how far you have come,
rather than how far you have to go.
Always count your blessing,
not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?

God : When they suffer they ask, "why me?"
When they prosper, they never ask "Why me"
Everyone wishes to have truth on their side,
but few want to be on the side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who am I, why am I here.
I cant get the answer.

God : Seek not to find who you are,
but to determine who you want to be.
Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here.
Create it.
Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

Me: How can I get the best out of life

God : Face your past without regret.
Handle your present with confidence.
Prepare for the future without fear.

Me: One last question.
Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

God : There are no unanswered prayers.
At times the answer is NO.

Me: Thank you for this wonderful chat.
I am so happy to start with a new sense of inspiration.

God : Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear.
Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs.
Life is a mystery to solve not a problem to resolve.
Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

Holiday Eve.

Today is a public holiday in Singapore.
Last night, I saw the movie 'The family stone'.
It is a very nice and positive movie. Every family have problems, some may have more. With love, everything will work out in the end. Happiness is just at the end of the tunnel waiting for you if you try.

Then, we went to Emerald Hill to have dinner and drinks. Unexpectedly, we are also having Ice-Cream. See the picture on the left, it is really nice and the portion is huge. We chatted a lot about worklife and our memorable university time.

I am really glad that last night the rain stopped for the night, it has been raining for 4 days with only a few short intervals.

My first blog in 2006

I have not posted anything since the new year.
Have been quite active. Still trying to adjust back to office work life since returning from trip and enjoyed a super long holiday due to clearing leaves.

In the first few days of 2006.
Some interesting days that I did.
1) attended a new year gathering at Eden's friend home, and we play the game 'Cashflow'
2) completed my basic golfing course and play in real golf course for the first time.
3) watched 'A Chinese Tall Story', really like Charlene Choi's Angel Image in the movie.
